New Cream Of Alumni Association Leadership Sworn Into Office
The highly anticipated swearing-in ceremony for the GCTU Alumni Association executives was held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, in the Vice-Chancellor’s boardroom at the main campus.
This notable event marked the formal recognition of the new leadership, setting the stage for their tenure and the symbolic transfer of authority and responsibility from the outgoing to the incoming executives.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, who was the chairman for the occasion, congratulated the outgoing president for holding the fort for the entire Alumni Association. He also praised the work of the election committee towards organizing successful elections. The VC indicated Management’s readiness to support the Association for the success, development and common growth of the University.
Prof. Afoakwa encouraged the Association to support the ongoing developmental projects in the institution and help to achieve the Silicon Valley agenda.
The outgoing president, Ing. Mark Amoamah, emphasized the importance of the constitution which he said will ensure that the Alumni Association operates efficiently, democratically and in the best interests of its members. He noted, that the executives’ term of office is two years and they have the opportunity to be re-elected for another term.
He urged the executives to work closely with the University Relations Directorate which has the Association database and has been instrumental during his tenure of office.
Ing. Amoamah highlighted the need for the establishment of sub-committees which will handle specific projects for the development of the Association.
Giving her acceptance speech, the President-elect, Ms. Magdalene Lamptey said, she was deeply honoured and humbled to be elected as the President of the GCTU Alumni Association. “It is with great enthusiasm and profound sense of responsibility that I accept this esteemed role, knowing the rich legacy of our alma mater and the pivotal role our Alumni play in shaping its future,” she noted.
She stressed, that as the President, her vision is to foster a vibrant and inclusive Alumni community that will serve as a catalyst for personal and professional growth. “I am committed to strengthening the bond of fellowship among our members, creating opportunities for networking, collaboration, mentorship programmes, alumni events and outreach initiatives.
Together, let us write the next chapter of history, one which is defined by collaboration, innovation and a shared commitment to excellence,” she emphasized.
Earlier, the Director of University Relations, Dr. Nusrat-Jahan Abubakar had extended her heartfelt congratulations to the newly- elected executives and the Interim President as well as all who had contributed to the growth and sustainability of the Alumni Association. “For years, we have been guided by the dedication and hard work of an Interim President who has laid a solid foundation for our activities.
Today, we are transitioning to a more structured and substantial leadership, elected through a democratic process, to steer the Association toward greater achievements. I have no doubt that you will lead with integrity, passion and commitment to the betterment of our Association,” she said.
The Legal Officer of GCTU, Ms. Naomi Onumah, administered the oaths of office and secrecy to the executives.
